I have been experimenting with different Roms for my LG SU640. I've been to CM9 , 10, 10.1 . Tried PAC Rom , paranoid ... you name it, I have tried it. But every Rom that I have tested lacks few things in particular.
Stability
(Ability to pass a day without FC , without Reboot without hiccups)
Battery Life
( If it passes 1.5 days with my usage*, I am more than happy)
Peace of mind
(Not worrying about missing a call because the cell froze when it received the notification)
While other Roms are not at all useless... I particularly love ParanoidAndroid, PAC Rom is an excellent mixture of AOKP,CM and Paranoid but with all custom Roms I have had instances where I had to suffer due to either FC or a random reboot.
So, I figured maybe I should give Stocks a try, Stock official release is always slow and mostly bloated till the throat but MOST stable. And then there are Modified Stocks (technically not stock anymore :P) with stability of Stocks and optimized for performance . They contain all the useful stock apps and none of the useless bloat. The best one I've found is ...wait for it...
Sphinx v3 Supercharge
It has
In short, I did not have to go through the hassle of installing basic software because the stock stuff is so awesomely usable.

Flashing Procedure :
Strictly follow the given procedure for best results.
- 4 wipes (Factory defaults , Wipe cache, Wipe dalvic cache , format system)
- Install from Zip (may take longer than other Roms)
- Once flashed, reboot and wait ...
- wait... wait...
- Once you are booted into the Rom, Choose language , DO NOT sign in with Google account just yet. Skip the Google account login and let it reach the homescreen.
- Go to applications and start Super SU, it will ask you to update SU binary, select yes and select the procedure other than through Recovery. Reboot when done.
- After reboot, enjoy your Rom.
- Let the system settle for about 24 hours before you give your verdict on its performance
**IMPORTANT**
Your Rom flash should take around 5 minutes. And it should take the longest on "Copying system files" message. If your flash time is less than 5 minutes, you'll most likely end up in a bootloop.
If you had 5 minutes flash and still experience bootloop then the possibility is that you ubricked using gingerbread v10i KDZ. To fix that follow the below procedure contributed by one of our users.

ReplyDeleteyes. it works with CWM
DeleteHi! I want to flash this ROM but I'm having a lot of trouble with my SU640.
ReplyDeleteI've posted about it in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44483885#post44483885
Can you please take a look and offer some advice? Will really appreciate this.
Regards.
I'd suggest doing the following.
Delete1- Remove your memory card. (MUST DO THIS)
2- Flash v30D using KDZ method. (official KDZ download from LG website)
3- Make sure when flashing KDZ, you do not unplug the phone before the "progress countdown reaches 100"... I say so because KDZ flash usually boots your phone into the ROM at 96% and some people think that its done and unplug. DO NOT DO THIS.
3- Once booted into the ROM, let it settle for about 10 minutes.
4- Goto settings > backup/restore > factory reset and wait for it to reboot with fresh settings.
if it helps, then please let me know :)
First milestone would be getting a stable Stock ROM... if that works, everything else will work.
I used official LG update yesterday morning and asked my brother to use that phone and report whenever he notices a difference.
DeleteHe just told me that he restarted the phone after emptying the battery and its brightness is where he left it, also, screen out time is 30seconds again.
Maybe it needed a day to settle.
Now, how do I flash this ROM? There is no recovery for this.
And thanks a lot for replying. :)
Oh, and I always wait for it to reach 100%, phone starts twice or thrice during the process. Better safe than sorry.
you can flash cwm... give me a day i'll post it here or you can google it
DeleteI was just a bit hesitant since they say it can brick our phones on V30D.
DeleteBut I'll give it a try, going to use the package under this name, "ROOT V30C GIOLANGLE".
And thank you for the advice, I'll let you know what the outcome is.
does MMS works in this rom ?
ReplyDeleteI haven't tested MMS, so can't say. let us know if you figure it out :)

DeleteAs Salam u Alaikum Brother! I tried the same procedure that you explained here.
ReplyDeleteStrangely enough, now phone is doing great on Sphinx ROM, Brightness issue got resolved, time out is okay and so is auto brightness feature. At least for now.
Everything went from bad to okay after 3rd boot, operations like changing the boot animations or making that notorious "GPRS not available in this area..." were performed without any problems.
Avatar ROM isn't behaving well, it lags on homescreen, lag goes away to some extent when I use phaser beam wallpaper but with static, it comes back.
Also the colors in custom roms aren't that great.
I guess it needed a day or two to settle after countless flashes in the past few days.
Thank you for publishing the ROM and the instructions.
Jazak Allah.
brother i Flashed this rom and now its stuck in bootloop. what should i do now?
ReplyDeleteI've answered this query here . http://adf.ly/UMzCL .
DeleteSame here. Bootloops :(
ReplyDeleteI have answered this query here . http://adf.ly/UMzCL
Deletewhenever I install Recovery on Jelly bean.It cannot Charge while Shutdown,it automatically restarts.Any Solutions. Can Anyone provide me with original V30D Bootloader
ReplyDeleteBootloop for me as well...
ReplyDeletewhoever is getting bootloops, try the following :-
Delete1- perform 4 wipes
2- install ROM from zip
(Sphinx ROM flash should take around 3 to 4 mins) if it ends earlier than that, you'll end up having a bootloop. but don't worry. Read further.
3- Once the ROM is flashed (proper or improper) reboot. If your ROM is flashed proper, you will see LG Optimus LTE logo with an animating PINK progress bar. Which will disappear after 3 to 4 seconds.
However, if you its an improper flash you will be stuck on the progress bar or experience bootloops. In that case, go to recovery, perform Factory reset, wipe dalvic cache but DO NOT format SYSTEM. Install ROM from zip, and reboot. You should have a proper flash :)
I'm still having bootloops. Tried exactly as you have mentioned. the Pink bar even does not animate. just after few seconds it reboots. The other roms like CM, Paranoid, one of the modified stock roms etc dont even want to wipe if we are coming from another rom. they work. but this is horrible. Please give us a better solution. Love to have a good battery life.
ReplyDelete1 - Did you get the "longer" flash time ? i mean the 3~4 mins of flash time ... CWM should take longer in "Copying system files" stage. If it passes over this stage quickly, then you'll end up on bootloop.
Delete2 - If you still experience a bootloop. Try flashing latest MIUI and see if that works. If that works then flash sphinx v3 again but this time DONT format System.
Whatever I suggest has been experienced by me and worked out by me and found successful before suggesting to you. So give it a go :)
I got a longer flash time. its I think more than 5 minuets. I've tried CM, Paranoid. And a modified stock rom (its ics 4.01.. as I can remember). they worked perfectly. Don't need any wips. But when I tried Signed_v30c CN_6,SphinX_V3_SuperCharge_V6_ForSU640 ,Sphinix V4 today too.. But all of them give bootloops. I unbricked the device as in your blog. so I installed the v10 kdz. will it be a problem?. Please give us a good solution. If I could have at least one day of battery....Hmmmm

DeleteNow what should i do next????
How to install it????
OK got it working after several failed attempts. I think the key is to kdz v30C first and then flash this rom. So the steps would be:
ReplyDelete1. Flash v30C_00.kdz
2. Root & install CWM
3. Boot into recovery and do 4 wipes
4. Flash this or other rom of your choice and enjoy your phone
Whenever i tried to flash this rom coming from a GB kdz, I had bootloops
thank you for your valuable contribution.
Deletecan you explain it a more plz?
ReplyDeletei mean v30c_00.kdz is requiired to flash through lg update software or through recovery (with modified custom v30c)?
if flashed through lg original v30c kdz, will i have to reinstall custom recovery?
You are welcome Mr Muhammad Ali. And it was really a pleasant surprise seeing your blog with info about a very under rated phone. People need to understand the value for money of these phones.
ReplyDelete@raheel
Any kdz file you flash needs to be flashed through LG update software and it takes you back to stock condition. v30c is stock Jellybean for our beloved su640.
Since you are stock after flashing kdz, there is no root or recovery. So yes after flashing kdz you root, install custom recovery and then flash any zip you like.
The latest stock JB update is v30d. But I have specifically mentioned v30c because it is rootable. Good luck and happy flashing :)
Junaid
thanks for ur valuable dtailed explanation! finally i have a working sphinx v3 rom!
Deletejust to add a little, i am very happy with the look, functionality, stability and amazing multitasking features(q slide), i have searched through and found out that sphinx v4.1 is out in the wild:-),has anybody tried this?does it worth upgrading?
thanks for the response bro!
Yes I am running 4.1 at the moment. Worth the upgrade IMHO. Just make sure you flash the patch given in same thread at xda.
DeleteAnd strangely enough, I just flashed a friend's su640 straight from GB to Sphinx v4.1 and it worked like a charm. So my earlier theory is not 100% true but apparently it worked for me and you as well.
@muhammad ali
ReplyDeletedoes gprs/edge working in this rom ?
